Balanta, officially the Federal Republic of Balanta is a country in South Kaftia, bordering Dakare and Kushish to the south, Sundi to the north. It is located east of Enfolo west of the Kaftian Sea. Balanta comprises of 18 states and one capital territory, where the capital Mari is located.

The modern Balanta state formed from the unification of the colonial Brieslandic Balanta and the Balanta Free State, a former province of the Buurawat Empire in 1951. The country faced a major civil war after independence in the early 1950s inspired by the civil war in the neighboring Central Kaftian Republic.

Balanta is the 3rd most populous country and has the 8th largest economy in Kaftia. It is the fastest growing economy in Kaftia and is considered one of the great emerging powers in the region. Balanta was one of the founders of the Kaftian Union and is part of most major international organizations.

Colonial Era

Burawi Balanta (1587 - 1832)

Breislandic Balanta (1790 - 1954)

Balanta Free State (1832 - 1954)

After the end of the Great Adonian War, the XY memorandum had given the region of Breislandic Balanta full autonomy in its powers (1951). The ruling Freedom and Unity Party (FUP), which was still backed by Breisland had decided to work with its southern neighbor, the Balanta Free State on unifying the two nations. The ruling Kadarist Central Party (KCP) of Balanta had initially accepted, beginning negotiations in 1952 on a merger of the two states. The nations had decided on creating a unified government in Mari, a village located on the border of the the two countries. The first two years of rule were to go as a unified coalition of the leading parties, and an election afterwards.

Balantese Civil War (1954 - 1960)

By the time of the 1954 Balantese elections, the relationship between the ruling coalition of the KCP and FUP had fallen apart. Most of the progress made by the party leaders, Yoruba Sane of the KCP and Markos Egbert from FUP, had stalled as the sudden death of Markos Egbert to tuberculosis left the FUP with no leader. A month before elections were to begin in October, Yohan Kalluumaysato, the leader of the central army of the Balanta Free State had staged a coup against the central government. The coup prompted an international response from both the Kaftian Defense Pact and ZIAF, launching a unified effort to return the region to stability. In 1955 a Balantese separatist movement known as Freier Staat (Balanta) had propped up, further fueling the conflict. In 2005, it was revealed that both Freier Staat and Yohan Kalluumaysato's army had been supported secretly by ZAIF and Burawa respectively, while also working with each other to undermine both forces.

In March 18, 1960, the unified forces under the Adonian Community had restored power to the original ruling coalition, though power had been shifted heavily to the Freedom and Unity Party as heads of the KCP were implicated in working with Kalluumaysato in his coup government.

Modern Balanta (1960-)

Balanta after the civil war had tried to remain neutral in most global affairs, during the Kaftian Split, Balanta had decided to remain neutral in supporting either Ormese or Burawi interests, though had remained in the Kaftian Union. Balanta had joined the Kaftian Association in 1965 as an observing member. Internally, power remained balanced between the KCP and FUP, with the KCP gaining a stronger grip in the south and FUP in the north. Balanta had provided logistical and medical support to the Adonian Peacekeeping Forces support during the Occupation of Kushish and the Kastrunetian Civil War.

Economically the KCP and FUP had focused on isolationist policies that had only had trade with their respective partners. The shifting economic policy had lead to many re-nationalizations and re-privatizations of businesses in the country for many years. Balanta in the 2000s had adopted a mixed-economic system strategy, attempting to capitalize on it's lower-middle income earning population, had begun to open much of it's area for investment to all, promoting cheap manufacturing potential and closer connection to Illypnia and the Mesogean than Eastern Fosia.
